KENYA coach Twahir Muhiddin has scoffed off Uganda’s top FIFA rankings in the region and termed it as misleading, reports Reuben Olita.

The two regional rivals have been pitted in Group 10 of the 2012 Africa Nations Cup qualifiers that also includes Angola and Guinea Bissau.

Reacting to Saturday’s draw released by the continental soccer body, CAF, the Kenyan tactician said the country’s 115th ranking did not reflect their ability and warned their opponents of a tough challenge in the qualifiers.

“The draw gives us a great chance of playing in the finals of the continental cup to be co-hosted by Gabon and Equatorial Guinea. Our matches against Uganda and Angola are tricky but we have played them before and we are optimistic of winning against the two at home and sharing the spoils away to book the ticket,” he said.

Kenya has never played Uganda in the qualifiers of a major tournament save for regional tournaments where the two teams have met 79 times with Uganda winning 34 times and Kenya 22 with 23 draws.

Chris Makokha who guided the team to the 1988 finals in Morocco said the Senior Challenge Cup which Uganda has dominated is a different ball game which should not be used as a pointer to their superiority over Kenya.

Kenya looks superior to Uganda in terms of their recent participation the latest being 2004. They made other appearances in 1972, 1988, 1990 and1992. Uganda made appearances in the event in 1962, 1968, 1974, 1976 and 1978 when they lost in the final to Ghana.
