Leaders of the newly-created Lamwo district have expressed willingness to offer free prime plots to developers.

The interim chairman, Matthew Ocen Akia, said they had resolved not to sell any land in the town to developers.

“We are not going to sell plots in the town. It is a policy we have agreed on. Developers may pay some taxes and other legal fees but we shall not sell any plot as some private land owners do,” he said.

Akia said they plan to develop the area into a planned and organised modern town.

He explained that Lamogi-Ongur was chosen as the site for the town council so as to promote planning and development.

Akia added that structures to be erected must be approved by the technical people.

“We will make sure that plans are first made before any plot of land in the town is given out for development. According to the head of architecture at Makerere University, it will take us 100 years to fill up the 50sqkm town council with buildings,” he noted.
