KATO Sebbaale looks set for re-election as Uganda Cricket Association (UCA) ahead of today’s annual general assembly at Lugogo.

However, there is still alot of uncertainty about the number or quality of opposition he will face once the polls get underway today afternoon.

While UCA Secretary Enoch Barumba has officially expressed his intention to stand against his boss, there is still suspicion Shukla Mukesh could declare his candidature for the top job at the assembly.

In fact, there is even speculation that Barumba will withdraw his candidature in favour of the UCA vice chairman because the two are reportedly working together.

The intrigue is approaching boiling point yet it could all be smooth sailing for Sebbaale, who is seeking a third successive one-year term at the helm of the ruling cricket body.

For one, it is not certain whether Barumba can garner the necessary support needed to push Sebbaale. There are even doubts Barumba, a Nile delegate, will get the club’s other vote if he stood.

Secondly, while Mukesh could put up a competitive bid, he ruled himself out of the running on Thursday saying, “Any step we take should be towards bringing unity within cricket.

The Chairman’s position is not competitive but complimentary.” Whether that means Mukhesi won’t stand is another matter altogether. The UCA will receive around sh1.5b from the ICC this year. The question is who will be in charge of it.
