DAN Ligyalingi is advocating for cricket clubs to have junior sides as a way of developing the game and promoting continuity, writes Norman Katende.

In an interview with The New Vision, Ligyalingi said that this will cover up for the players leaving active cricket for formal jobs.

He was elected unopposed to replace Mukesh Shukla as vice chairman of the Uganda Cricket Association on Sunday, “We have to note that cricketers are leaving the game for formal employment or for greener pastures. So, unless we have a continuous supply of new players, then the game will keep stagnant,” Ligyalingi observed.

He said that the new executive will task teams to have junior sides if they are to benefit from any development fund.

Ligyalingi, clarified that his club Nile CC, for which he was a delegate at the assembly, decided on who to vote for the chairmanship.

Some circles had it that Ligyalingi new post was a reward for the Nile votes that had Kato Sebbaale return as chairman for a third term. Fred Lutaaya and Godfrey Zaribwende were elected secretary and treasurer respectively.

Ligyalingi also pointed that the current executive’s main role will be to ensure that the chief executive officer is fully empowered to run the association.
