A new company, expected to promote the tourism industry, has been launched.

Executive Promotions International was unveiled last week in Kampala by Jimmy Twebaze, the company’s managing partner.

“We are going to embark on research into the types of tourists who visit the country and appropriately plan for the sector,” he said during the launch.

Currently, the tourism sector is sluggishly growing.

The sector currently contributes a dismal 3% to Gross Domestic Product.

Twebaze said the tourism sector was increasingly becoming significant in contributing to the country’s economic growth and the firm would help boost visitor arrivals.
It hit a record high in growth in 2007 when the country hosted the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) – and surpassed coffee as the leading hard currency earner.
Publicity for the tourism sector has been a major challenge to the industry’s development.

The firm will also train and research on enterprise development.
