NAMILYANGO College advanced to the final of the Coca Cola sponsored schools rugby league after an 11-8 semi-final victory over rivals and defending champions St. Mary’s College Kisubi (SMACK) at Kampala club on Sunday.

The game officiated by level II International Rugby Board Kenyan referee John Bosco Mwamba left many coaches impressed with the talent.

William Katureebe gave Namilyango an early lead in the third minute through a penalty and Justin Kimono added a try for an 8-0 half time score.

In the second half, SMACK mounted pressure and replied with a penalty and a try by Ivan Magomu and Kenneth Lubango respectively to level it at 8-8.

With 10 minutes to the final whistle, Kenneth Mukama added a penalty for Namilyango, sending SMACK packing.

Last year, SMACK beat Namilyango 6-3 at the same level before smashing London College 21-0 in the final.

“We played well but our defence gave away many penalties,” SMACK coach and also MTN Heathens skipper Felix Lubega noted.

Earlier King’s College Budo had demolished Hana Mixed 51-3 in the first semi final of the senior category.
Elsewhere, Black Panthers humiliated Thunderbirds 36-12 in the women rugby league at Kyadondo.

Emmanuel Oroma scored three tries, Charlotte Mudoola two and two conversions, Sylvia Ajok a try and Hellen Buteme one conversion for Panthers. Rosenberg Kanyunyuzi and Christine Kizito had consolation tries for Thunderbirds.
