Stanbic Kamuli, style up

EDITOR—Stanbic Bank is among the most organised banks in Uganda. Unfortunately that cannot be said of the Kamuli branch. The carpet at the main entrance of the bank tells a sad story. The size, shape and state of this carpet is testimony to decades of use without replacement.

As though that is not sickening enough, the potable rails or posts meant to facilitate orderly flow of customer traffic have been reduced to small isolated poles since the belts are off. In fact, the posts contribute to congestion in the bank on busy days.

The customer suggestion book at Stanbic Kamuli is in tatters and one can hardly locate where to register complaints, yet it is such suggestions that improve service delivery. People’s perception in relation to customer care is is that staff should be cheerful and smart to manage front desk offices.

Effective service delivery is hinged on smiles. While this may work well with old clients, it should be noted that unpleasant and disorganised environments alone can “chase away” potential ones.
