Jinja hosts fun rugby on Good Friday; Busoga gets first win

IT will again be fun on Good Friday at the Jinja Rugby Club ground, the venue for the fifth edition of the Nile Fun Rugby Festival. Yesterday, Nile Breweries announced a sh25m package for the event at the Uganda Rugby Union offices at Lugogo.

IT will again be fun on Good Friday at the Jinja Rugby Club ground, the venue for the fifth edition of the Nile Fun Rugby Festival. Yesterday, Nile Breweries announced a sh25m package for the event at the Uganda Rugby Union offices at Lugogo.

“We are committed to supporting people who are transparent. We shall continue
to support Nile Fun Rugby since it is one way of promoting the sport,” the brewers brand manager Timothy Kayondo said while unveiling the sponsorship.

Edward Ochieng the chairman of the organising committee promised a bigger and better festival this season, adding that two teams from Kenya and Rwanda have confirmed participation in the Friday gala.

The winner of the full contact version will take a sh1m cash prize, and the runner-up sh500,000. The winner for touch rugby will receive sh300000 and the best referee sh200,000.

The occasion will be hyped up by entertainment from artistes Grace Nakimera, GNL Zamba, and Rabadaba from Uganda and Nonini from Kenya. Coca Cola, IT Solutions, G4S Security, Kampala Coach and O-Condom are co-sponsors of the event.

  • Uganda Christian University will be out to maintain their unbeaten run in the university rugby league as they visit KIU at Kansanga today.

    They demolished Busoga University 40-0 then thrashed KIU 47-0.Kyambogo was another victim suffering a 18-12 defeat, while MUBS (18-10), Nkozi (28-6) and Nkumba (28-0) went the same way.

    Busoga beat MUBS 6-3 for their first win on Sunday.
