EDITOR— I wholeheartedly support the Government for the policy of creating more administrative units in form of districts for better service delivery. Unfortunately, some of these new districts have taken on new names which do not reflect the historical backgrounds of the old places. A good example is Manafwa District.

From days immemorial Manafwa has been the name of the river flowing from Mt. Elgon (Masaba) and never a name of any place in Masabaland!

Maybe by coincidence the river cuts across the new districts of Bududa and Manafwa. It may be fair for convenience and alliance but is it logical for the people who hail from Bubulo to retain the name Manafwa when everything they expected have fallen apart?

I think we are better off defending and protecting our heritage. We should keep our old names.
