CONCERNED Parents Association, an NGO in northern Uganda, has given 32 oxen and 32 ox-ploughs to returnees in Aloi and Aromo sub-counties in Lira district.

The association donated the animals to boost food production and income generation.

The items, worth sh20m, were received by beneficiaries on Saturday.

Anthony Kerwegi, the acting executive director of the association, said a two-year project was funded by Care International and is targeting 200 farmers in the two sub-counties.

“We are also training them on agronomic, village saving and loan association,” Kerwegi said.

He said Care International gave sh200m to implement the project.

He warned the beneficiaries against slaughtering the animals or using them to pay brideprice.

Aloi LC3 chairman Albino Okello said a number of returnees in the internally displaced people’s camps were still using hand hoes for farming.

He applauded the association for the contribution, saying it would bridge the gaps and help residents produce crops for consumption and sale.
