POLICE in Mityana have rescued a seven-year-old boy from his step-mother’s home, where he was allegedly being tortured.

Robinson Ssenkumba was found tied with a rope on a pole in the kitchen at their home in Busundo, Busimbi sub-county. Sylvia Nassazi, his step-mother, is said to have tied him there.

The officer in charge of the family and child protection unit at Mityana Police Station, John Mumbere, on Monday said the rescue was made after a tip-off from concerned residents who heard the boy crying.

Mumbere said: “The scars on the boy’s body clearly indicated that he was being tortured. He also testifies to being beaten and given very little food.”

Nassazi said she locked the boy in the kitchen because he was stealing from the neighbourhood.

“I did not want to beat him, so I left him in the kitchen so that he does not steal anything from the neighbours,” she said.
She will be charged with child torture, Mumbere said.
