ENERGY minister Hilary Onek has warned Ugandans against surrendering Uganda to its enemies over political differences.

He said people who disrupt security, culture, the national economy and infrastructure are not patriotic.

The minister, who was speaking during the inauguration of Gulu University students’ patriotic club on Friday, said opposition politicians in Acholi should not use tribal differences to cause conflict in the community.

“Tell other students that the patriotic club is not for NRM supporters only. It is a national assembly of patriots. Let us spread the message of patriotism to others who think it is political,” Onek said.

He stated that the Acholi opposition leaders, who have been accusing the Government of grabbing people’s land, have run out of ideas because people know the truth.

Gen. Julius Oketta, the director of emergency co-ordination and operations in the Office of the Prime Minister, said the patriots should hold public leaders accountable to the benefit of the local population.

He was presenting a paper on patriotism and national unity.

The patron of the club, Charles Omone, appealed to the minister for logistical support, saying the club does not get financial assistance from the university.
