Twenty-three people, accused of killing two police officers, were last week charged on two counts of murder. Simon Odoi, a grade one magistrate, remanded the suspects to Kaweeri Prison.

None of the accused was allowed to plead to the charges. They will re-appear before the chief magistrate’s court in one month.
The prosecution said the suspects on Easter Sunday killed two police officers at Kicucula village, Madudu sub-county in Mubende district.

The victims, Jacksom Muleme and Sam Akampurira, had gone to arrest Vincent Saaka, who was accused of obtaining money by false pretence.

Saaka allegedly locked the officers in his house, where a mob attacked and beat them to death. Among the accused is Kicucula LC1 chairperson, who is also the father of Saaka, the key suspect.

The Police said they are hunting for Saaka, who is still on the run.
