RESIDENTS of Aromo sub-county in Lira district have threatened to demonstrate over the poor state of Agweng–Aromo road.

They said the 18-kilometre road was last rehabilitated in 2000, but that the district authorities had failed to repair it despite their requests.

Produce business and transportation of merchandise, the residents added, has been paralysed since the roads have developed big potholes, making it difficult for heavy trucks to pass through.

They accused their LC5 councillor, Patrick Ayena, and the Erute North MP, Charles Angiro Gutomoi, of failing to advocate for the rehabilitation of the road.

The LC3 chairperson, Robert Ogwang, said they had demonstrated and petitioned the district chairman over the state of the road but no action was taken.

Ayena, however, blamed the US army trucks for causing more damage to the road while carrying equipment to repair Agwa bridge which collapsed recently due to heavy rains.

He, however, said the district, with support from Danida, had earmarked sh132m to rehabilitate of the road this month.
