DRAMA erupted at Bukerere village in Goma sub-county, Mukono district on Tuesday, when two candidates in the Mukono North by-elections exchanged words before their supporters.

Matthew Talemwa and Charles Jjingo are both independent candidates in the race.

The fracas began when Jjingo unexpectedly showed up at Bukerere, where Talemwa was holding a rally. When the crowd saw Jjingo, they ran away from Talemwa’s rally and converged around Jjingo, who is more popular.

This angered Talemwa, who shouted at Jjingo, accusing him of trespassing in his campaign area as per the Electoral Commission time-table.

Jjingo also fired back at Talemwa, before driving off to Kalagi and Kabembe with his convoy.

Jjingo said his encounter with Talemwa was accidental as he headed to Kyampisi sub-county.

In Kyampisi, Jjingo promised his supporters that he would advocate for a federal system of governance to ensure equitable distribution of resources.
