THE UPDF response team is constructing pit-latrines in the 21 villages that were hit by cholera in Moroto district. The disaster first broke out in Kanakomol village two weeks ago.

The affected villages include Kanakomol, Nachele, Nachogorom, Naitakwae and Kakoliye. Others are Katanga, Nakapelimen, Nawanatau, Lokeirut and Kambihizi.

The UPDF 3rd Division spokesperson, Capt. Henry Obbo, said the response team, comprised of the construction and medical unit, would help fight the epidemic.

He explained that the construction team would dig pit-latrines around the settlements.

The medical team, he added, would work with the district health authorities to sensitise the communities and offer health services.

The district health inspector, Martin Eyura, said they had by last Friday registered 70 cholera cases.

“We need to see that the epidemic does not spread to other villages,” he said.

Eyura encouraged the locals to desist from drinking unboiled water to curb the disease.

He also advised the communities to watch out for persons with cholera symptoms.
