Write a Will

May 14, 2010

Whether you like it or not, as a man, there are things, you are expected to have accomplished by a certain age.

Whether you like it or not, as a man, there are things, you are expected to have accomplished by a certain age.

Every week, TOTAL MAN will point out one of these things.

A Will
You should know what this means but if you do not (that is perhaps why you do not even have one), a will is a legal declaration by which you name the person(s) to manage or share your property when you die.

Ideally, everyone should have a will by 25 because at that point we believe you have a job and own at least some property, say, electronics and furniture. You are thinking: that is not much to warrant writing a will.

Perhaps, and since by 25 most people are still trying to find their footing in this mazy economy, let us raise that age to 35.

Surely, by 35, you should have a wife, offspring and some property. The passage of the property to your off spring, when you die, must be guaranteed in a will.

We are not necessarily talking land or a house but the domestic stuff you own.

In a society where distant relatives storm and grab a deceased’s property, even cutlery, you need a will as soon as you get a dependant.
