THERE is no ideal time to face the MTN-FUBA league giants D’Mark Power but as things stand for Timothy Odeke’s Nkumba Marines, today’s meeting could not have come at a worse time. All Marines key players are nursing at least an injury.

In fact, in the case of Nkumba’s talisman Julius Lutwama, his broken finger rules him out of today’s YMCA fixture.

Shooter-guard Danson Ngati, who missed the last game with a knee injury, will similarly miss out if he is not passed fit in time.

As for the rest of Nkumba’s starters, it is a case of playing through the pain. Mercurial point-guard Lad Ikungura has played with an injured achilles for most of the season. He may be required to do so again especially now that their backcourt is heavily depleted.

The frontcourt is not fairing any better, with the remarkable Phillip Wakimwero and sensational Wilson Otweyo suffering from strains. With such a poor bill of health, Odeke would be right to put in his excuses early.

But he will not do that. Instead, he is promising to fight for the win.

“We are going to come all out and hope for the best,” Odeke vowed. “Half of the team is nursing injuries but they all have the heart and are raring to go.”

If it helps, the Marines know what to expect from Andrew Bazira’s Power; a line-up deep in talent and a coach who always expects and is expected to win.
