THE First Lady and Minister of State for Karamoja, Mrs. Janet Museveni, has said she is not interested in the post of National Resistance Movement Women’s League leader as reported.

The press reported that Mrs. Museveni and the Presidential Principal Private Secretary, Amelia Kyambadde, were interested in the office, currently held by education minister Geraldine Namirembe Bitamazire.

In a press statement issued yesterday, Mrs. Museveni said: “On May 16, The Sunday Monitor reported that I may be planning to wrestle with my husband’s secretary for the post of NRM Women’s League leader in the coming party elections.”

She said she does not intend to have a political showdown for a job half the population of Uganda want and can do.

“I’m not running for the position because, as far as work and positions of responsibility are concerned, my cup is full and overflowing. I know many worthy and capable women in the party who should stand for the post and I want to encourage them,” Mrs. Museveni, who is also MP for Ruhama, added

The NRM delegates’ conference is slated for late June, the party publicity secretary, Ofwono Opondo, said. New office bearers forming the executive will be elected at the conference.
