UGANDA Professional Golfers Association (UPGA) captain Deo ‘Yellow Boy’ Akope, coming off back-to-back victories in Arusha and Jinja, will be out to extend his dominance to the Burundi Open which tees off in Bujumbura today.

The MTN sponsored Akope, will face competition from compatriots Vincent Byamukama, Brian Toolit, Godfrey Mande, Denis Anguyo and Herman Mutaawe. They all travelled to Burundi yesterday.

“I missed my flight yesterday (Monday), I will get there at 5:00pm and hopefully have a quick practice round which is very important,” Akope stated before departure.

The $10,000 (sh20m) four-day tournament is expected to attract Kenyan, Tanzania and Rwandan professionals who will be out to make some money in Bujumbura ahead of the Kigali leg of the KCB East African Tour next week.

The prize-money award structure will be determined by the competitors before tee off.

Rwandans Emmanuel Ruterana and Jean Baptista are rated highly in the two tournaments in Bujumbura and Kigali on the account of being familiar with the courses.

Some Ugandan professionals opted to stay in Kampala to compete in the MTN Monthly Mug on Saturday.
