THE Moyo district LC5 chairman, Peter Iku Dolo, has advised the Inspector General of Government (IGG), Raphael Baku, to stay out of the district’s politics.

“He has been making statements that the people from Kampala have chosen the people to lead the district after next year’s elections.

“I don’t expect such statements from a highly-respected civil servant. He must stay out of the politics of our district,” Dolo warned.

He said Baku recently met with the district politicians to forge ways of voting him (Dolo) out in next year’s general elections.

“He held meetings with some politicians and used a wrong forum to discuss some district administrative issues with people who are not concerned,” Dolo added.

He also said Baku accused the district of failing to spend sh803m in the 2008/2009 financial year.

However, Baku said his remarks followed the 2008/2009 Auditor General’s report.

“The report said the district did not seek permission from the Ministry of Finance to hold it (money). The law is clear that unspent money must be returned to the treasury,” Baku said.

He denied making political statements against the chairman or any politician as Dolo claimed.

“During the official opening of the IGG’s office in Moyo, I urged the district leaders to ensure that all the funds sent to them are spent accordingly,” he said.

Baku said the new office, to serve Moyo, Yumbe and Adjumani districts, would reduce workload and increase efficiency among the IGG staff unlike when they had only a regional office based in Arua district.

The district chief finance officer, Henry Drichi, however, denied having unspent money on the district account.

Baku represented West Moyo in Parliament in 2001 but did not contest in 2006.

He was appointed deputy IGG and later acting IGG, a position he still holds.
