Uganda v Zimbabwe
MATHIAS Ochwo’s 26th cap comes with the responsibility of leading a star-studded Rugby Cranes squad against Zimbabwe in the Victoria Cup in Kampala on Saturday, writes Douglas Mazune.
The gigantic no nonsense Ochwo has vowed to shine on his first outing with a captain’s arm-band.
The 29-year-old Ochwo shoulders the challenge to lead senior players Allan Musoke, Robert Seguya, Victor Wadia, Ronald Adigas, Faisal Gama and Timothy Mudoola who have boosted the squad.
“It’s a great honour to lead such a team with very senior players. It’s a task that will bring the best out of me,†Ochwo remarked.
Ochwo, who made his Cranes’ debut six years ago, admitted he was surprised by the appointment.
“I didn’t expect it. It’s a challenge to me. I am not going to be the usual Mathias, I have to play as a leader,†an upbeat Ochwo stated.
He sounded confident the Cranes would win all their matches in the Tri-Nations competition that also features Kenya.
The Cranes face Kenya at home on July 3 before the return leg in Nairobi on July 10. The Ugandans travel to Harare for the return leg on July 24.
