President Yoweri Museveni, the commander-in-Chief, made the promotions, which were announced in statement yesterday.

The statement, released by army spokesperson Lt. Col. Felix Kulayigye, said: “His Excellency has promoted, confirmed acting ranks and commissioned professionals serving in the UPDF. Many of the professionals promoted have a long period of service in the UPDF,” Kulayigye said.

“Some of those promoted include Ag. Col. Stephen Kwiringira, confirmed Colonel, while Lt. Col. Dr. Vincent Kawoya has also been promoted to Colonel.

“The long-serving advocates of the High Court, Maj. Charles Wacha and John Paul Ssonko, have been promoted to Lt. Col. The two officers are experts on human rights and they have been international resource persons on human and child protection rights,” he added.

He said those promoted included professionals, long-serving officers, as well as those who completed various senior and middle level command and staff courses.

“The UPDF congratulates the promoted and commissioned officers. We shall continue with our noble path of professionalisation and quality service delivery to our people and Mother Uganda,” Kulayigye said.
