THE Boyz Fooball Club became the first side to qualify for the second Big League season when they edged favourites Gulu University at Pece stadium yesterday.

Francis Luwum got the crucial winner in the 70th minute helping the Gulu side secure northern region’s sole slot to the promotional league. They’ll battle for Super League places with qualifiers from other regions.

The Boyz, sponsored by Acholi paramount Chief David Onen Acana, became the second Gulu side this year to gain promotion after Gulu United made it to the Super League.

The final result was however not a reflection of proceedings on the field that had the university side dominating play only to be let down by poor finishing.

The Boyz, who had lost to their university rivals in the preliminaries, reached the final after beating Gulu Blackburn 2-1 in the first semi-final.

The runners-up on the other hand advanced to the final after beating Ediofe Hills 3-2 on Tuesday.

Gulu Blackburn consoled itself by beating Arua side Ediofe Hills 1-0 in the third place play-off.

In western region Hoima Steel FC beat Young Stars to storm the semi-finals.
