THE abrupt changes that have been made in the 2010 schools calendar by the Education ministry will greatly affect Uganda teams’ performances at the East Africa Secondary Schools Games due in Nakuru, Kenya next month.

Students will have to decide whether to miss lessons at the beginning of Term Three or go for the games.

According to the circular to all head teachers in government and private secondary schools by education and sports Permanent Secretary Francis Lubanga, Term Two is to close on August 6 instead of August 13 as had earlier been scheduled.

It also brings forward the reporting date for the third term to August 23, instead of September 6. The two-week long games will run from August 20.

Hajarah Ddembe, the officer in charge of physical education in the ministry, said yesterday the sports department will meet and discuss the fate of the student players.
