KITENDE, Namirembe Hillside and Mengo SS sent the highest number of candidates to the five public universities of Makerere, Kyambogo, Mbarara, Gulu and Busitema this academic year, which starts next month.

The analysis is based on both private and government admissions. The public universities admitted 34,000 students this year.

However, it was difficult to ascertain the exact number of students admitted from each school because some students were admitted to more than one university.

In such cases, the number of students admitted to a university from a given school was greater than the number of candidates who sat A’levels.

Some students sat in the previous years, but were only admitted this year.
The absence of reliable data makes it difficult to establish the school that had the highest percentage of students joining public universities.

Within the constraints of the available information, Kitende sent the highest number to the public universities followed by Namirembe Hillside and Mengo in that order.

Lubiri SS came fourth, while Katikamu SS in Wobulenzi, Kyambogo College School, Gombe, Seeta High School (Mukono), Old Kampala, Naalya SS and Valley College (Bushenyi) followed.
