QI hold a degree in Tourism (major) and Kiswahili. I want to change my career. I feel that my calling is accounting. Do you think a professional qualification such as the certified public accountancy (CPA) alone would help, without the backing of a business degree?
John

AThe examinations manager at the Institute of Certified Professional Accountants (ICPAU), Bosco Ntangare, says a graduate of any course can make a successful accountant if he did a CPA. QI did a certificate in agriculture and a diploma in wildlife management. Can I do an agriculture course at the university?
Hassan Kugonza

Q I studied physics, economics, math and entreprenureship at A’ level. What is the advantage of taking a bachelors degree over a professional course, for example, doing B.Com instead of CPU/ACCA for a student who has a dream of being an accountant or auditor?
Eric

AThe examinations manager at the Institute of Certified Professional Accountants (ICPAU), Bosco Ntangare, says both the degree and the professional course are crucial for any
one who wants to be an accountant or auditor. He says the degree builds one’s research and writing skills among other proficiencies while the diploma course is required for practising and membership to the professional regulatory body. However, Ntangare says it is better to begin with the degree but if resources allow, one can undertake both courses concurrently.
