WITH many music shows in Kampala cancelled because of the July 11 bombings, many artistes in Uganda are taking their shows out of the country. I recently caught up with Radio and Weasle of Goodlyfe entertainment at the Lina’s Pub in Bukoba, Tanzania on the August 5.

The night before, they had performed at the border town of Mutukula. By 9:30pm the stage was set and various artistes were performing.

Among them was the famous Kampala band UB5, Red Banton and Chagayaga.

Radio and Weasle are very popular in Bukoba and when they made the grand entrance at exactly 12:55am, the crowd went wild. The crowd favourite songs were Zuena, Nambura, Bread and Butter and Ngenda Mumaso.

I have always detested Ugandan artistes’ shows because they mainly mime, but this show in Bukoba was different!

Radio and Weasle worked the crowd with a lot of energy, asking them wither they should continue with the show.

Tanzanians tend to be laid back, but not that crowd. They danced, blew vuvuzelas and kept asking for more! The show ended at about 2:00am.
