GULU RDC Col. Walter Ochora has resigned to contest the district LC5 chair next year. The post is held by Democratic Party head Norbert Mao, who is likely to stand for the presidency.

The President has accepted the resignation. In a letter, the President’s secretary, Tecla Kinalwa, said: “You will be required to hand over government property in your possession to this office.” Ochora told journalists: “That is what I have been waiting for.”

He, however, requested the President’s office to allow him hand over his pick-up truck to the acting RDC, Milton Odongo, who does not have a vehicle.

Ochora, who served as Gulu district LC5 chairman for two terms from 1998 to 2006 when he was defeated by Mao, said his emphasis will be on fighting poverty.
