THE Police in Mukono district have arrested three people over using iron bars to carry out robberies at night.

They are Banabas Talemwa, 18, Laule Mirundi, 20, and Proscovia Ederu, 18, all residents of Namilyango village in Goma sub-county.

The officer in charge of Seeta Police Station, Apollo Kyangungu, said the suspects were arrested after they stole a phone and money belonging to Robert Byamugisha, a resident of Kasokoso village in Goma sub-county.

Byamugisha told the Police that Ederu led him into a trap set by the suspected robbers. He said he met her at a drinking joint in Seeta on Saturday night.

After a few drinks, Ederu asked Byamugisha to go home with her. On the way, they met her accomplices, Kyangungu said. He said Ederu confessed that she knew of the plan.

Residents of Namilyango village, who heard Byamugisha screaming after he was hit with an iron bar, tipped the Police. “We dashed to the scene and mounted a search in which we arrested the three,” Kyangungu said.

Byamugisha, who sustained a deep cut on the head, identified the suspects. He was later taken for treatment at a nearby health unit.

Kyangungu said the male suspects had been using Ederu to lure men into their hideouts.

Several people, including bodaboda cyclists, have in the past been attacked in a similar way at the trading centre and in Mukono town.

“A mob wanted to lynch the suspects after they were arrested, but we saved them,” Kyangungu said. He added that the suspects would be charged with attempted murder and robbery.
