FOUR contractors have submitted bids for the construction of the Nyakahita-Kazo and Kazo-Kamwenge roads.

Dan Alinange, the National Roads Authority spokesman, said the roads will be upgraded to tarmac. Work is expected to start in December.

In May, the roads agency pre-qualified seven contractors to bid for the project. However, only four firms have submitted bids to the roads agency.

They are Zhongao Overseas Construction Engineering, China Railway Seventh Group Company, China Henan International Corporation Group and China Communications Construction, all from China.

Alinange said the roads are an important access route to western Uganda, which is endowed with great potential for tourism and minerals.

The project is funded by the African Development Bank and the Government.
