Incumbents lose in Ntugamo district

INCUMBENTS Ntungamo district chairperson John Wycliffe Karazarwe, and district Woman MP Beatrice Rwakimari, have lost in the NRM primary elections.

INCUMBENTS Ntungamo district chairperson John Wycliffe Karazarwe, and district Woman MP Beatrice Rwakimari, have lost in the NRM primary elections.

Johnson Nkirirehi the district NRM returning officer, declared the winners on Saturday in the voting exercise, which started on Monday and ended on Friday.

Karazarwe, who is also the president of the Uganda Local Government Association lost to his district speaker, Denis Singahache.

Rwakimari lost to Naome Kabasharira, a former district Woman MP, who lost her seat to her in 2001 after she was disqualified for lack of academic qualifications.

Minister Mwesigwa Rukutana was declared NRM party flag-bearer for the MP seat of Rushenyi county after winning his opponents with 30,018 votes.

Justus Karuhanga, the runner-up got 16,519 votes, while Peterson Musinguzi got 403 votes

Kabasharira, Singahache and Rukutana join the First Lady, Janet Museveni, who is the Ruhaama County flag-bearer.

Mrs. Museveni got 69,512 votes, while her opponent, Musasizi Kanyate, got 2,472.

Other NRM flag-bearers in Ntungamo district include Stephen Tashobya, the Kajara county incumbent MP, who won with 23,002 votes.

Yona Musinguzi, 31, become the Ntungamo municipality MP flag-bearer after he won the former assistant chief administrative officer of Ruhaama County, Theo Tibihika, Tumwine Kanuma and Henry Mugabe Kanahe.

Jacob Kafureeka was declared the NRM flag-bearer for the Ntungamo Municipality mayorship after defeating incumbent Patrick Muhangi Kanyante and Urban Banturaki.
