STEVEN Omony sunk a season-high 35 points to lead the Miracle Eagles to a crucial 79-74 victory over the UCU Canons in the FUBA men’s first division on Tuesday.

The win sustained Miracle’s belated push for a place in the playoffs and underlined the impact that one individual can bring to bear on a dream.

Miracle are chasing a longstanding desire to make the postseason and this match gave proof – if any was needed – that Omony could lead them there.

Along the way, the former Falcons star will need the support of his team-mates – like the towering Brian Ssentongo and Muhammed Ali, who dropped 13 and 14 points respectively.

The defeat was just UCU’s second of the season and one that was not certain until the final 17 seconds of the match, when Miracle went up 77-71 off Omony’s free throw. Ivan Enabu was UCU’s highest scorer with 19 points, with brothers Geoff Omondi and Robert Mugabe bagging 18 and 14 points respectively.

The win left Miracle one win behind the Kyambogo Warriors, whom they are looking to oust from the playoff places before the end of the regular season.
