ETHIOPIAN Big Brother All- Stars housemate Yacob Yehdego quit the game last week, saying he had signed up for the main Big Brother house, not the barn. He had been evicted to the barn a week earlier to await being voted back into the main house, a thing he didn’t like and asked DStv to pay him if he were to stay. Nigel Nassar interviewed him about his Big Brother experiences.

Is it true you have never been in love?
Of course it is. That thing they call love I have never experienced. I almost felt it for Jen; that girl has everything I would like in a woman. It’s just that she kept shoving it in my face that she’s dating back home.

You seemed smitten by all the girls, and actually promised marriage to Sheila, Lerato, Tatiana and Jen. Were you planning on a farm of women?
Blame it on the booze, man. See, I feel like a smooth operator when I get high; so I need a woman to load my suaveness on. But trust me when I am sober, I start seeing all the little things I don’t like about them.

So that means you were sober when you said Sheila was such a dude, and she would never have a chance as your wife?

Sure, I was. And honestly, I do think Sheila is more of a dude than a babe. Nothing about her is feminine, sorry to my boy Hannington who has a thing for her but it’s true. For instance, I have never seen her do the mirror-and-make-up thing that Tatiana does all the time.

Which barn-mate do you think is going to be voted back into the main house?
Definitely Hannington. He has been in the barn longer than anyone else and has upped his game; he might even win DStv’s jackpot.

I am also going to campaign for him so Ethiopia can vote for him. We were really close. He was the only barn-mate who didn’t gang up on me when I asked to leave. The rest all called me a stuck-up guy. Hannington understood me.

How does it feel to finally be out?
It’s a relief that I can do stuff on my own schedule, not Biggie’s. When in there, you learn to never take your freedom for granted. Now I am not a caged animal.

But you walked away from $180,000…
Dude, the barn was unbearable. When I got evicted from the main house, I made up my mind on going home and continuing with my life.

Taking me to the barn just got to my head. I felt like I was being used as bait to keep my country interested in the game yet it was over for me.

My chances of getting voted back into the main house and then beating those that didn’t go to the barn at all were so slim. That’s why I asked M-Net to pay me if I were to stay. I disappointed my fans but I am sure they wouldn’t have loved to see me sad on TV all the time.

What if Biggie pays all who stay?
That’s unlikely. There might be incentives like laptops, phones and the like, not money. But then again who knows? Biggie can change the rules anytime. I will not beat myself over it though. I made a decision to go back home and concentrate on the family business. The $2,500 I have left will console me as I go about my duties.

What do you do back home?
I am an administrator for Rainbow Foam and Plastic Industry, my parents’ company. I am just like any other employee of the company; no special privileges.

What car do you cruise?
I cruise a Land Cruiser GSR 2006 model.

There’s an aura of aristocracy about you. Is your family anywhere around the ruling circles?
Not really, we are just an average business family, nothing special.
