MASAKA municipal council has run out of public burial sites.According to mayor Charles Kasibante, the biggest public burial site on 11 acres of land at Kasijagirwa near the UPDF Armored Brigade is occupied by about 40 families.

He said the families have applied to the council to convert the land into a residential area.

Kasibante said the council advised them to buy the plots.

“We shall use the money from the plot sales to buy another land which will be turned into a public cemetery,” he added.

The cemetery at Kamirampango and the one near the Masaka Hospital mortuary are full.

Benon Iga, the town clerk, told New Vision that they have allocated sh22m to repair the Masaka Hospital mortuary.

“The mortuary has got a new face after we did major repairs,” he said.

He noted, however, that the morgue lacks a refrigerator.

Last year, the staff threatened to dump the bodies at the office of the mayor over poor pay.
