Makerere College alumni introduce award

MAKERERE College School Old Students Association (MACOSA) has introduced a Young Citizenship Award, for the most exemplary students.

MAKERERE College School Old Students Association (MACOSA) has introduced a Young Citizenship Award, for the most exemplary students.

The award does not recognise academic or athletic prowess only, but it is given to students identified as honest, hard working, helpful and fair.

The inaugural award winner, John Paul Otim of Senior Six, was announced at a re-union dinner held at Hotel Africana in Kampala last week.

The ceremony was presided over by finance minister Syda Bbumba, who is an old student of Makerere College School.

Bumba applauded the idea of recognising good behavior in young students, as a means of nurturing them.

She reiterated the Government’s commitment to educating the children of the nation and thanked the old students for assisting Makerere College School in various ventures.

The association bestowed the Distinguished Service Award to Stephen Sande Busuulwa who committed 21 years of his 42 years in the teaching service to Makerere College School.

Receipinets of the award are current or former member of staff at School recogonised for their commitment and loyalty.

More that 100 former students who attended the r annual re-union re-elected Eng. Abdu Kagga as President of MACOSA for the second time.

The other Executive Members elected for 2010/11 are the Vice President, Arch. Robert Kiggundu, General Secretary, Mr. Kenneth Ssegane, Treasurer, Mr. Louis Mukiibi and Publicity Secretary Mr. Joseph Kaaya; Committee Members include Dr. Colin Sentongo and Annie Kaboggoza Musoke.

The Assembly was later followed by a dinner dance .Other highlights included music and dance displays by current students of Makerere College School.
