A total of 71 heart patients have successfully undergone surgery at the Uganda Heart Institute in Mulago thanks to the sh5b equipment donated by the Saudi government.

Regional cooperation state minister Isaac Musumba lauded Saudi Arabia for her continued cooperation in various development sectors.

Musumba was chief guest at the 80th Saudi Arabia national day celebrations held at Kampala Serena Hotel last week.

The host, ambassador Ahmed Muhammad Al-Bahlal, said the Saudi government has also extended over sh25b ($12m) in interest free loans for the construction and renovation of vocational and technical institutions in Uganda.

Another fund of over sh233m has also been extended towards financing schools, institutions and Islamic centres in the country.
