GRACE Nanyonga is a huge fan of celebrated dancehall star Peter Miles (real name Peter Kanyike). She had a chance to hang out with the artiste at Blue Mango, Centenary Park in Kampala, recently and told Pidson Kareire what transpired between the two of them.

Occupation
Student of Guidance and Counselling at Kyambogo University
Favourite music style
I love reggaetone and dancehall, but generally, I like dance music.

What do you love about Peter Miles?
The discipline he exhibits in public is the first thing that impressed me about him. Unlike other popular artistes, I have never heard him involved in any fight. Honestly, the music he does and the way he conducts himself are commendable. He is a very peaceful musician.

When did you begin listening to his music?
I have grown up listening to his music because it is as old as I am. Ever since I started enjoying music, it was Peter Miles’ music that I gave priority.

Did it surprise you to meet him?
Yeah! It was a very big surprise because someone who knew my love for this guy and his music sent my number to Blitz. I was so surprised to receive a phone call from New Vision asking me to come and meet Peter Miles. Besides, it had never crossed my mind that I would ever be so physically close to him.

How was the outing then?
It was so great. I didn’t think he would be so open with me but he answered every question I asked; he told me so many things I did not know about him and his family. He asked me what I thought about the things we talked about. He was interactive.

What did you have in mind before you met him?
Actually, before the whole experience, I thought he was a quiet person. However, I was so surprised to find him a very free person and so open at that.

What dominated your conversation?
We spoke mainly about how he has managed to stay positive in the limelight, his family, education, the music industry and his personal life.

Did you notice anything strange?
He is shy.

What is the one thing you will always remember about this meeting?
I will always remember the jokes he cracked and how warm and open he was. Oh, and the friends he came along with; there was one called Jenkins who enjoyed teasing us and then Pastor Fabulous; their presence was fun.

What did you learn from this interaction?
I learnt that despite the fact that one might be talented in anyway; education matters a lot because it reflects in what they do. In fact, Peter Miles is exemplary.
