Cup final goes to Jinja

THE Uganda Cup rugby final will for the first time be hosted in Jinja this year. The championship that started in 1997 has been regularly held at Kampala and Kyadondo rugby grounds over the years.

THE Uganda Cup rugby final will for the first time be hosted in Jinja this year. The championship that started in 1997 has been regularly held at Kampala and Kyadondo rugby grounds over the years.

“We are starting the Uganda Cup on Saturday and shall climax with the finals in Jinja on October 30,”Rugby manager Yayiro Kasasa stated at the tournament launch in Lugogo.

According to Kasasa, the move is meant to promote awareness of the sport countrywide.

Heathens will open their title defence against buffaloes at Kyadondo rugby club.

The sponsors have committed sh30m towards the three week event that has a cash prize of sh2.5m for the winner, sh1.5m for the runners-up and sh1m for the best disciplined team.

The tournament will have the shield and reserve teams battle in their category for a prize of sh0.7m for the champions and sh 0.5 for runners up.

The reserve teams include Lira, Gulu, Mbale, Buffaloes2, stallions, Boks and Summerkamp among other teams to take part.
