DOUBLE Commonwealth Games gold medallist Moses Kipsiro returns home to Kapchorwa today to start preparing for next season. He conludes four days of celebrating his Club Games double gold victory in Kampala, and is eager for a brief fete in Kapchorwa.

The 5000m and 10000m champion has since returning on Sunday been dining and making appearances at various offices for recognition.

“You know I need celebrations but I also have a future in athletics. I should not lose my fitness and I will try to limit the celebrations so that I start early training,” said Kipsiro.

He was yesterday hosted by the Indian High Commission and members of the Indian Association in Uganda for his achievements in New Delhi. He had earlier been hosted to a State dinner, by parliament and a welcome dinner by the national athletics governing federation.

He said he is happy with the response after his victory. “We have at least got a camp in Bukwo but we are looking for more camps in the region. If we have such camps, then we shall tap more stars. That is the campaign we are launching and we want people to help us in this.”

Meanwhile, Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) president Roger Ddungu has also hailed Kipsiro’s performance.

“Your (Kipsiro’s) grit, and determination to win, is a good example to all upcoming athletes Uganda is grooming for the 2012 Olympics in London,” Ddungu has said.

Ddungu, who is in Mexico on Olympics duty said he will fulfill his pledge of $2,000 (sh4.4m) for the two gold medals as soon as he returns in the country. UOC promised to build on Kipsiro’s success by helping to expose him and his colleagues to regular top competitions abroad.
