That pick-up line may not always work

MARY gate crashed a party because she wanted to talk to Mark. She had longed for an opportunity to see Mark that nothing could deter her.

When she staged herself strategically for his attention, he walked up to her and said: “I lost my number, can I have yours?” Although it was a lame pickup line, she admits finding it funny and it was the beginning of their conversation.

When asked about what she thinks of guys who use pick-up lines to get attention from a lady they are interested in, Mary thinks a guy’s attractiveness matters.

“I do not mind what line a guy uses to have my attention because when I am interested in him, even a bad pick-up line will be funny to me.”

Literally, a pickup line is an opening statement a man makes to his fantasy woman.

Men have done research to make sure they do not lose the vibe during that first encounter with a lady. Their work has even been made easier with the ‘dot.com’ era .

William Kakooza, a builder, does not believe in using pick-up lines because every time he applies them, they do not work for him. He says he would rather let the lady go if he cannot find a better way of beginning up a conversation than embarrassing himself.

Every woman would love a man who is confident and can freely express himself.

“He has to be able to begin a conversation with or without a pick-up line, but if I like the guy, I would not mind whatever approach he uses to talk to me,” Joy, 30, a city banker says.

“What would I need to begin a conversation if not a pick up line?” she asks.

Joy believes a man can walk up to a lady, greet her, compliment her beauty and introduce himself.

She believes that women’s responses, positive or negative depends on how the man approaches them.

“When a guy approaches a woman in a nice way, she will be as polite as possible.”

Eric Wakabi, a university student believes a pick-up line can work, especially to the younger girls, because they excite them.

“A guy can win over a woman with a pick-up line depending on how he presents himself.

Even the best pick-up lines falter when the speaker is not confident of what he says.
