TWO students have had their feet amputated at Kiwoko Hospital, while several others are nursing serious injuries after their truck overturned in Luwero district on Friday.

The truck was carrying over 60 supporters of Luwero district LC5 chairman Ronald Ndawula as they escorted him for nomination to contest in the 2011 polls.

The affected students were Umaru Wasswa and Ayub Sebuyira, both of Everest Secondary School, owned by Ndawula.

Others who were seriously injured included Hassan Kafeero who sustained broken limbs, Ibrahim Bogere, Noelina Namaganda, whose left hand got broken, and Sam Mutebi, whose feet got smashed.

Most of the victims were market vendors and students.

Sam Bamuzibire, the Luwero district Police commander, said the accident took place at 11:00am as the overloaded truck negotiated a sharp corner at a terrific speed.

Ndawula was nominated on Thursday as an independent candidate alongside his NRM arch-rival, Abdul Nadduli, and Inter-Party Cooperation flag-bearer Bwanika Bbaale.
