Uganda shifts focus to International Championship in Johannesburg

BUOYED by a hard-fought victory in the East African Golf Challenge, Uganda is keen on extending its form to the International Amateur Team Championship in Johannesburg, South Africa next week.

BUOYED by a hard-fought victory in the East African Golf Challenge, Uganda is keen on extending its form to the International Amateur Team Championship in Johannesburg, South Africa next week.

The event is scheduled for November 21-23.

Ugandan captain Stephen Kasaija reckons his team has what it takes to be among the top finishers. Uganda was 8th out of 16 teams in the previous edition of the tournament that usually attracts team from Africa, Europe and America.

“We have been playing long courses and now we are going to shorter courses. We have also been in a very competitive tournament which has improved our level. We shall definitely perform better than last year,” Kasaija said.

Kasaija will lead the team comprising of Brian Mwesigwa, Emma Opio and Ian Odokonyero. The team that leaves on November 17, will first compete in the South Africa Amateur Championship slated for November 18-20.
