UGANDA Christian University women team secured their maiden berth in national volleyball final after edging out Ndejje in 2-1 the best-of-three semi-final series on Sunday.

The decisive 22-25, 25-22, 25-23, 27-25 triumph earned the Mukono university queens a 2-1 victory at Namboole. Both teams had tied 1-1 after Ndejje levelled the series on Saturday. The result sets up UCU in a tie against defending champions Nkumba University who saw off KAVC also 2-1.

UCU coach Nason Bwesigye had only praises for his side for what he said was a show of great determination.

“Fatigue nearly killed us. But thank God we recomposed to shake off the overload,” he said.

On their next challenge against Nkumba, Bwesigye sounded cautious. “We respect Nkumba so much in the game, no doubt. But we just need to wake up on our good side and do the needful,” he added. The other upset came in the men’s category where defending champions Sport-S were humbled 2-1 by Nkumba University.

The victory puts Nkumba in a titanic final clash with KAVC also broke a 1-1 series stalemate by winning 3-0 in the decisive set against Ndejje.

The final showdown, which will also be contested in the best of three series, starts this weekend at KIU grounds.
