THE Uganda Revenue Authority has been voted the best company that has embraced ICTs to improve service delivery in the country.
The e-tax initiative by the tax body was commended at the 2nd Kampala ICT expo and the East African digital forum at the Kampala Serena Hotel recently.
Fredrick Kitoogo, the National Information Technology Authority (NITA-U) director for research, who represented Aggrey Awori, the ICT minister, lauded the Uganda Revenue Authority for embracing information and communications technology, especially e-tax in revenue collection.
Other winners were Posta Uganda as the best Customer Care provider, iLab topped in research for development and NITA took the best in ICT innovations and creativity accolade.
The expo attracted players and experts from the banking and finance, telecoms, public departments, leisure and hospitality, the judiciary and legislature and transport sectors.
Other participants were from the logistics, education, customer care, aviation and regulatory agencies.
The expo was supported by the National Information Technology Authority Uganda, Uganda Revenue Authority, the Uganda Communications Commission and Makerere University.
It was conducted under the theme â€œInnovations, the digital technological revolution of the past, present and the future.â€
Wilson Kutegeka, one of the exhibitors, presented a paper on the need for a centralised electronic health record exchange system, saying it would increase safety and lessen medical errors.
