EDITOR: The Sunday Pepper of November 28 published a story claiming that Prime Minister Apolo Nsibambi had lost land titles worth sh3b to thugs. The article further misled the public that the prime minister’s pressure shot up after he learnt of the fraud.

The story was accompanied by a photograph of Nsibambi lying on a bed in Mulago Hospital. That photograph was taken a year ago when he was involved in a helicopter accident.

Since then, many people have called the lands ministry showing concern about the purported loss of the land titles. Other friends have rang the prime minister inquiring about his health and the alleged loss of the titles. The prime minister has not lost any land titles and there has been no connivance amongst the ministry staff and the fraudsters as reported.

The truth, however, is that it is the prime minister’s brother, Dr John Nsibambi, who lost some of his land titles to fraudsters under mysterious circumstances. The matter is being investigated by the Police. The reporter did not have the professional decency to verify his story with either the prime minister or the lands ministry. He should apologise to him.
