CHRISTIANS have been urged to celebrate Christmas wisely by avoiding acts like adultery that bring their faith into disrepute.

Dr Samuel Stephen Kaziimba, the bishop of Mityana diocese, said many couples indulge in adultery during the festive season.

“This is the time when many couples go into adultery, from which they contract HIV/AIDS. This is not the way we should celebrate Christmas,” Kaziimba said.

“We should instead welcome Jesus in our hearts and spiritually change our lives,” he added.

Kaziimba was preaching at Buwate Parish in Buwekula archdeaconry, where he confirmed over 110 Christians on Wednesday.

He said many Ugandans were misunderstood the meaning of Christmas and ended up getting problems as they cerebrated.

Kaziimba cautioned Ugandans against alcoholism, saying people tend to drink too much during the Christmas season.

Commenting about the 2011 elections, Kaziimba urged Christians to vote wisely and avoid being persuaded by politicians who make empty promises. He advised Ugandans to remain united during this election period.

Kaziimba also called upon politicians to work hard and maintain peace and stability in the country.

Meanwhile, residents of Kigando sub-county in Mubende district are jubilating following the donation of medical equipment to their health centre.

Bishop Kaziimba handed over the equipment to the residents at Buwate Health Centre III in Kigando. They include modern beds, laboratory equipment and medicines.

Kaziimba said the items came from a friend of his in the United States.

“When I visited the US last year, I learned that over 500 children had died of malaria within a short period. This forced me to look for this aid,” he said.
