LANGUISHING in unfamiliar waters in the bottom half of the Uganda Super League table, 16-time champions SC Villa will break their recent policy and raid the transfer market in the January transfer window.

Villa that has for the previous four seasons largely depended on their junior side, Villa Young and students for recruitment, will aggressively raid the market.

A Villa official who declined to be named said that scouts are already in the field compiling a shopping list.

“Our school boys have great potential but they need to blend with experienced players that we have to find in January. We are not demanding for instant results but we want to strengthen our squad as part of a long term plan,” the official explained.

As by the Christmas break, Villa lay 11th in the 14-team league. They reckon that the hiring of Serbian coach Zivojnov Srdjan, coupled with a revamped squad will improve their fortunes this season before launching a major assault in the 2011/2012 season.

Villa has won only two of their nine games, drawn four and lost three — leaving them 11 points behind table leaders KCC FC.

Zivojnov, a former coach of Tanzanian giants Yanga, replaced Sula Kato who was sacked last month as the going got tough at Villa Park.

Zivojnov has promised to groom a winning side but declined talk of instantly turning around Villa’s faltering league fortunes.
