Hilton Plettell received a letter inviting him for a scan at the antenatal department of Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital to find out how far pregnant he was. The 50-year-old merchandising manager was asked to attend with a full bladder—standard practice for ultrasound scans and told that “sometimes it can show twinsâ€. Mr Plettell, who has never had children, said the letter had his correct name, date of birth and national insurance number so he knew it was genuine and it turned out to be a genuine mistake. The hospital blamed a clerical error and promised to improve procedures in the future.

Court Judge Michael Miller sentenced Kumari Fulbright, 28, to two years in prison and six years of probation. Fulbright and three men were arrested three years ago after her ex, Joshua Conway, 27, complained to police that he had been robbed, tied up and tortured. Fulbright pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit kidnap and aggravated assault.
