Review UPE, Say Bishops

Universal Primary Education (UPE) should be reviewed because school standards have dropped, Church of Uganda (COU) bishops have said.

Universal Primary Education (UPE) should be reviewed because school standards have dropped, Church of Uganda (COU) bishops have said.
The resolutions was reached during a three-day retreat for COU bishops held at Banana village, Entebbe on Friday.
The bishops asked the Government to clarify the role of the Church in running UPE schools founded by them.
Bishop Balaggadde Sekkadde of Namirembe Cathedral said church leaders and parents had a role to play in uplifting the standards of the schools in the country.
The bishops asked the Government to lift the ban on recruitment of secondary school teachers, saying the influx of UPE graduates increases each year.
